Private Shanxi Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Datong
At first, Shanxi tours guide and driver will meet you at your hotel lobby around 08:30 in the morning.
Firstly you will drive about 40 minutes (20 kilometers) to Yungang Grottoes, a World Heritage site. Containing 254 Buddhist caves, which stretches about 1 km long. And it is filled with about 5,100 precious sculptures.
In the afternoon, drive back to Datong city to visit Nine Dragon Screen Wall firstly, made of colorful glazed tiles and depicting nine dragons. Now it is the biggest and oldest glazed dragon wall in China.
Secondly, you will visit Huayan Temple – the largest and best preserved monastery built by Qidan during Liao Dynasty. Thirdly drive back to your hotel.

Day 2. Datong-Wutaishan
Have a breakfast, Firstly check out, you will get to Hanging Temple after 1.5 hours’ driving (80 km). Built in 491 during Northern Wei Dynasty, it enjoys a history of over 1,500 years. It was built on the cliff of Hengshan Mountain.
After the visiting of Hanging Temple, drive 1 hour to Yingxian Wooden Pagoda – the oldest and tallest wooden 9-storey structure in China. It is 960 years old.
Thirdly, drive about 3 hours to Mount Wutai.

Day 3. Wutaishan Tour
After breakfast, your guide will take you to explore Buddhist culture in the most influential temples of Mount Wutai – Tayuan Temple, Shuxiang Temple, Xiantong Temple, Pusa Ding Temple which are located in Taihuai Town.
And if you have plan to visit all of the 5 terraces in Wutaishan, you need another day to take the terraces trip in Wutaishan by the bus. We can arrange the bus ticket for you.

Day 4. Wutaishan – Taiyuan
After breakfast, Firstly drive about 50km (40mins) to visit Foguang Temple which is a hidden treasure but forgotten by most of tourist groups. Its Eastern Hall is one of three survived wooden architecture of Tang Dynasty (AD 618~907) in China.
Have a lunch, secondly drive about 3 hours to Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi Province. Stop at Shanxi Museum to visit, know the Shanxi history from 5000 years ago. Check in to your hotel and relax on your own. Finally drive to Taiyuan hotel.

Day 5. Taiyuan – Pingyao
Today you will travel to Pingyao. Take a side trip to visit Jinci Temple firstly. It is the charming natural landscape as well as historical relics of unique architectures, elegant murals and colored sculptures from Song dynasty.
Secondly, we will drive to Pingyao, Pingyao Ancient City still keeps its intact charm: ancient city walls, elegant courtyards, scattered temples, and the city tower building.
After the ancient city exploration, go to check in to your hotel.

Day 6. Pingyao-Linfen
After breakfast, Firstly drive about 1 hour to Zhangbi Ancient Castle, which is a series of tunnels dug to hide out in times of war in over 1380 years ago. You will be amazed by the fabulous feat of architecture and engineering in ancient time.
Secondly , drive to Wang’s Family Compound, It is an art museum of traditional Chinese architecture and “Forbidden City in Folk”.
Thirdly drive to Hongtong , have a walk around your Hongtong hotel.

Day 7. Hongtong-Linfen
After breakfast, Firstly drive to visit Hongtong Guangsheng Temple, to visit Colorful galzed pagoda, and it is must see sights of your Shanxi tour. Secondly drive to visit Hukou waterfall, about 2 hours driving. Spend 1 hour to visit, then drive back to Linfen airport.
