Jonathan is simple an AWESOME GUIDE!

Months prior to our trip, i found Jonathan’s website upon googling about Datong and Pingyao. I was not to sure what to expect and after 20 plus emails, the plan was set and all i had to do was to wait for the day.

Upon arriving in Datong’s train station (we took an overnight train from Beijing), we were greeted by Jonathan at the hotel that he had booked for us.

Speaks good English and has this value that i always seek in a guide, pro-active!

Before we could even ask certain things, he has already prepared.

We chose Datong as the 1st stop as we wanted to see the Hanging Monastery and it didn’t disappoint us. It was freezing cold and the view was fantastic.

Along the way we saw a few temples and carry on the journey to Pingyao on train the following day. Pingyao city was stuck in time and we loved how they preserved the buildings. Jonathan, took us around the city by walking on the walls that divides the ancient city with the modern one. We also cycled around the city and this is a must do!

The initial arrangement with Jonathan was only Datong and Pingyao. And that was a mistake from me. I should have asked him to guide us in Xi’an and complete it in Beijing. How i wished i was able to turn back time and get him to follow us.

The 8 of us will never forget the experience we had in China and it was all made memorable by Jonathan.

Great time in Pingyao

We visited Pingyao earlier this year and really loved it.
Jonathan was a fantastic tour guide – very helpful in the lead-up to our trip in terms of customising our itinerary and booking our train tickets back to Beijing.

We spent a while discussing our tour as we had a list of places we were interested in seeing but also wanted a fairly relaxing trip, and based on Jonathan’s recommendations we were very happy with our final itinerary.

Jonathan was always on time (including picking us up at Taiyuan station) and very patient, and his English is excellent.

We visited sites inside the city wall as well as in the surrounding areas (including Shuanglin Temple, Zhangbi Fortress, Wang Family Courtyard).

The cycling tour inside the city wall was a lot of fun – it was a great way to get around between the many temples and museums.

Jonathan was very knowledgeable about all of the places we visited in and around Pingyao.

Each of the places he organised for us to have lunch were great.
I would definitely recommend a visit to Pingyao to anyone visiting China, as well as Jonathan as a tour guide for both Pingyao and the surrounding areas.
